Angela’s Garden Stylish Garden Gear

Garden gear generally comes in two forms – functional and stylish, and usually not both at once. So imagine my delight to open a parcel from Angela’s Garden with a set of washable, breathable, beautifully-designed things to wear in the garden.

First off, I tried on my new hat (pictured). The morning glory pattern is fun and fresh without being stodgy like many floral patterns can be, and it seemed to go with everything I wore – purples, browns, greens… And, unlike most women’s garden hats I’ve tried, it actually fits my head! It’s not so big that it’s constantly sliding down my head and into my eyes. Fancy that. I think an actual woman designed this hat!

Next, I put on the kneeling pads. Now, I’m a pro, and I often kneel on concrete or on very knobbly rocks for many hours in a day, so my usual kneepads are like an inch and a half thick. My usual kneepads are also just a mite bit uncomfortable, seeing as how they stick out from my knees an inch and a half!

These kneepads are much more comfortable to wear, and while they have a very streamlined look, they’re deceptively cushy. The foam in there has some crazy kind of gel-like cushioning. I wore them for a few hours and forgot I had any kneepads on at all, because they stayed on, the straps didn’t cut into the backs of my legs, and they cushioned me well while kneeling in my gardens beds and on my lawn. If you know you should be wearing kneeling pads in the garden, but find them hard to get used to, this is the perfect pair to try.

Then I tried on the gloves (the New Synthetic style). They seem to have all the features of a high-end glove, but they’re half the price. Breathable back, suede-like fabric protecting your fingers, comfy padding on the palm to prevent blisters, and (OMG) a terrycloth brow wipe. It has a brow-wipe, people. <swoon>

Even with all of the protective features, though, I still had great tactile sensation and could feel what I was doing. I tried planting some six-packs of annuals – always a good test of how delicately you can work with a glove – and not once did I wish to fling them off and go at the annuals barehanded. I could feel what I was working on, could ruffle up the roots, and planted without hurting any leaves. Worked well! And yes, fully machine washable, like the other gear.

  3. i have not been kneeling in my garden – maybe because i don’t have knee pads or it could be because of all the puddles! it just keeps raining here in Oregon!

  6. I would definitely like to try all of these products. I use a little foam kneeler myself, but I’d like to try kneepads. (And I’m fair as can be, so a hat would probably be a good idea).

    I’m planning to do all of the landscape pruning and preparation for this spring/summer season and I’ve been all over the internet searching for info on how best to do so. Your videos/information has by far been the most user friendly… even for a guy in Nebraska. I guess I’ll give that hat to my wife if I win! 🙂 Thanks for all the help!

  15. Ahhh..Spring is finally here. If these gardening gears do not put you in the mood to get out and attend to your garden after a cold and long winter, I do not what would. The gardening gear would even encourage the flowers to bloom. I hope I will be the lucky winner.

  18. Had a little basal cell cancer taken off my nose last year and now always wear a hat in the garden. Looks like that flowered hat has a nice wide brim.

  32. Hi! I was lucky enough to purchase one pair of Angela’s knee pads last year, and found that they were the BEST I’ve ever used. Due to both knees having had to be replaced, I need the most comfortable, lasting knee pads I can find – these were just that. Now, they’ve been discontinued – does the factory have anything else similar? I’ve been looking everywhere, trying to get more, and have been unsuccessful. Am so disappointed!
