Monday Miscellany: Read This Now Edition

This week, it’s all about books. And, um, giveaways. Of books!

First off, Timber Press, publishers of so many of my favorite gardening books, is holding a giveaway for the deer-resistant gardening book I profiled recently for the Christian Science Monitor.

Not only can you win a copy of the book 50 Beautiful Deer-Deer ResistantResistant Plants, but you can also win some stylish gloves from Womanswork. Yes, Womanswork is that glove company that makes those stylish, stretchy and soft gloves that I always wish someone would give me for my birthday, but so far nobody has <le sigh>.

All you have to do is go on over and comment to win both.

Edible-Front-Yard-contestNext up, Ivette Soler, author of The Edible Front Yard (I may have mentioned her once or twice), is holding her own giveaway.

This time, it’s not even stuff you can buy. Well, some of it is – there’s a copy of Ivette’s book, a copy of Sugar Snaps and Strawberries by Andrea Bellamy, 20 adorable seed packets from GrowOrganic.com, and a HAND-DRAWN, framed picture done by Ivette herself, inspired by the book.

Seriously, it’s gorgeous. Who wouldn’t want to hang that in their kitchen? Go on over and leave an adoring comment to win.

Lastly, have you ever wondered about the reviewers on Amazon.com who spend their free time reviewing everything from books to toilet brushes on Amazon’s website? Well, I’m one of them, and recently Michael Nolan from Garden Writers Today interviewed me about a recent study of Amazon reviewers.

And speaking of Amazon, I’ve reviewed a few gardening books there recently, so if you’ve been curious about any of them, you can read my take on each:

High-Impact, Low-Carbon Gardening by Alice Bowe

Urban Homesteading: Heirloom Skills for Sustainable Living by Rachel Kaplan and K. Ruby Bloom

The Week by Week Vegetable Gardener’s Handbook: Make the Most of Your Growing Season by Ron Kujawski and Jennifer Kujawski

The Informed Gardener Blooms Again by Linda Chalker-Scott

That’s it for today. Come back Wednesday for an exciting surprise – a very special giveaway of my own!
